Origin South Africa

Nutritional Aspects Rooibos Tea is a red tea which isn't actually tea at all, but a herb from South Aftica that is fermented and is red in colour. It is caffeine-free and low in tannins (which can bind to minerals like iron and zinc, preventing their absorption). Brewed rooibos tea (without added milk) contains negligible macronutrients, however, it is high in antioxidants and other phenolic compounds ( and is associated with the following effects: - very high antimicrobial activity, almost on par with green tea. - some antioxidant activity - suppression of mutagen activity in animals - 1 cup provides meaningful levels of fluoride (5% RDI) and copper (7% RDI) but negligible amounts of other minerals and vitamins. However the only trials available have been conducted in test tubes or animals, with no available human studies.
