Nutritional Aspects Green Tea Organic Green Tea comes from the same plant as black tea, but is non-fermented and dried. A cup of green tea contains slightly less caffeine than black tea at ~35-70mg/cup. Green tea contains tannins which can prevent the absorption of minerals like iron and zinc. Brewed Green tea (without added milk) contains negligible macronutrients, however, does offer several other trace compounds including polyphenols, antioxidants and flavanoids which are associated with many different health benefits. Green tea (brewed without milk) is high in phenolic compounds  associated with the following effects: - high antimicrobial activity (much higher than black tea) - high antioxidant activity - may have a preventive effect on cardiovascular disease - may have a beneficial effect on blood lipid profiles (help hypercholesterolemia) - may help in the prevention and treatment of cancer - appears to have a thermogenic effect that may help with obesity - can be beneficial for glucose and lipid disorders - is associated with longevity However the only controlled trials available have been conducted in animals, with the available human studies being epidemiological or cohort studies.
